How Does It Work?
1. Browse and Add Cities
Start by browsing our extensive database of cities from around the world. You can search by name, filter by country, and explore cities with detailed information including flags, timezones, and Wikipedia links. When you find cities that interest you, simply add them to your "Interested Cities" list.
2. Automatic Data Collection
Once you add a city to your list, our system automatically fetches comprehensive data using AI. This includes:
- Cost of living data (rent, groceries, utilities, transportation, etc.)
- Monthly weather information (temperatures, rainfall, daylight hours)
- Visa and immigration requirements
- Currency information and exchange rates
- Images of the destination
3. Compare Destinations
Use our comparison tool to view multiple cities side-by-side. Compare costs, weather patterns, pros and cons, and other data points to help you make the best decision for your situation.
4. AI-Powered Insights
Ask our AI assistant specific questions about any destination. Get detailed answers about local culture, lifestyle, business opportunities, healthcare, education, and more. All AI responses are saved for your future reference.
Using the Free Version with Your Own API Keys
Travel.me.uk offers a completely free tier that gives you access to all features when you provide your own API keys. This means you only pay for the API services you use, directly to the providers, giving you full control over your costs.
Required: OpenAI API Key
To use AI features (data collection and insights), you'll need an OpenAI API key. Here's how to get one:
- Visit OpenAI's API Keys page
- Sign in or create a free OpenAI account
- Click "Create new secret key"
- Copy the key (it starts with "sk-")
- Go to your Profile Settings and paste it in the OpenAI API Key field
- Save your settings
Note: Your API key is encrypted and stored securely. You'll be charged by OpenAI based on your usage. Check their pricing page for current rates. Most users find the costs to be very reasonable for occasional research.
Optional: Image API Keys
To automatically fetch images of destinations, you can optionally add API keys for image services:
- Unsplash API Key: Get free images from Unsplash Developers
- Pixabay API Key: Get free images from Pixabay API
These are completely optional. You can always add images manually if you prefer not to use these services.

Getting Started
1. Create Your Account
Sign up for free - No credit card required. Just provide your email and create a password.
2. Add Your API Keys
Go to your Profile Settings and add your OpenAI API key (required) and optional image API keys.
3. Browse Cities
Visit the Cities page to explore our database. By default, we show UK cities, but you can search or filter by any country.
4. Add Cities to Your List
Click "Add to My List" on any city that interests you. Our system will automatically start collecting data about that destination.
Privacy & Security
We take your privacy and security seriously. Your API keys are encrypted and stored securely. We never share your information with third parties, and you have full control over your data.
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time. Your API keys are only used for the features you enable, and you can see exactly what data is being collected for each destination.
